Vancouver USA Singers to present Journeys concert June 4th and 5th at 7 pm Sat and 3 pm Sun. Tickets available at the door, or in advance from chorus members and the following outlets: Beacocks, Music World Hazel Dell, and Music World Battleground. Ticket prices include $12 for Gen Admission, $10 for Seniors (age 62+), $4 for students at the door with ASB, and free for under 12. Musical selections will trace the enchanting Journey of folk music in the form of ballads, hymns and spirituals from its early beginnings in the British Isles and Latin countries of Brazil and Ecuador to the Appalachian and Southern traditions of North America. Other selections will include Mozarts Regina Coeli, one of his three settings where the influence of Handels Messiah can be easily heard; the deeply felt piece, There Will be Peace, set to American poet Sara Teasdales words of consolation; and the long-time favorite, Blackbird, by John Lennon and Paul McCarthy. Rounding out the program, the simple and exquisite Dirait-on by northwest born composer Morten Lauridsen will be performed. This piece concludes his cycle of songs called Les Chansons des Roses, which has helped to make him the most frequently performed choral composer living in America.
With an almost 50-year tradition in the Vancouver community, this group has a rich history and deep range of talent in its directors and 90-voice chorus. Jana Hart with her decades of musical performance, teaching, and conducting across the Pacific Coast, directs the chorus. Also featured will be VUSA Youth Ensemble, Skyviews Concert Choir, Advanced Womens Choir, and recent student scholarship recipients, Ian McDaniel and Eoghan Gormley.
